Our Man in Black

Here are a couple of things Jackson has said to me recently. I got him to repeat them for the camera, but initially he walked up and delivered the lines uncoached. We're in the process of explaining to him that one can be both fierce and good without having to be bad. But for now, he seems to identify the brave and the bold with the bad. For those concerned about the existence of and reasons for this association, comments should be forwarded to Ruthie via email.

(Translation: "You're a bad man! I'm a bad man!")

Harry's new favorite hobby

is pulling up. . . I don't know how he's managed it, but I've found him standing up in his pack n' play (mesh sides) a few times. Is this boy not adorable?

Late-Breaking News

Laurel and Clint are engaged! We're so excited! I'll try to get some pictures of them up in the next few weeks. They're pondering February.

Various and Sundry

On Tuesday we move. And then we have a week to "settle", get the house we're in spotless, and then we'll spend the following week in Alabama visiting my parents and grandparents. It will be the first time for my Meme & Harry Daddy to meet Harry! For now we're running around crazy, but I wanted to write a few things down about the past week before I forget. . .

- Last weekend I spent with college friends in Dallas. It was even better than I'd expected. That's me, Simone, Christy, Anne & Michelle. Three friends couldn't make it.
and then during the week another college friend that found me on FaceBook (I have an account to view Bethany's account, and all these people have found me there and it has been so fun!) came for dinner and we had a great conversation. So it was college week.

- Harry had his 9-month appt. on Monday. The boy is slipping; down from 95th to 75th percentile for weight and height. 24.4 lbs. I think you'll need to join the Pushup Club, buddy. But you are an amazing dancer. Here's proof:

- Sarah and Meme came on Sunday and left Wednesday. Somehow I failed to get any pictures of that, but Sarah got some great ones. Sarah? Sarah? Oh, yeah. She's got Dave & Lynn there and then traveling cross country. We spent their visit doing a culinary tour of Austin, hitting both Central Market and the uber Whole Foods. I made a great Shrimp Curry from the Ruth Reichl book I read a few weeks ago. I know nothing about curry, but I say it's great because Meme, my culinary hero, said so. Thanks, Meme.

- We celebrated our 10th anniversary on Thursday! That number is still staggering to me. We played it fairly low-key (though Matthew was absolutely wonderful to me, while I was a total dud) as we'll be taking an anniversary trip next May. We mainly just wandered around all day with our minds blown that we've been married that long. We had dinner at Taverna; I had gnocchi and it was amazing. Thanks to Laurel for babysitting!

- And a few of the latest Jackson quotes (tucked at the end as a reward for reading all my ramblings):

While playing "lion" with Sarah, a favorite game, he said his usual, "You'd better hide!" and when Sarah shrieked appropriately he responded, "You'd better cry out to God!"

He's grown fond of our Folsom Prison CD and walks around saying, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash." We've been wondering if he's getting too old to listen to everything we do; he very clearly confirmed our concern the other day when he asked Matthew, "What does 'just to watch him die' mean?" (for those of you who don't know the concert, there's a song that includes the words, "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die.")

Along those lines, the other day he asked to turn on music and began flipping through our CDs, saying, "Let's listen grasshopper". It took a second, but we finally understood the translation, "Let's listen to bluegrass." That's our boy.

Prayer Request for Josh and Emily

We are putting our house on the market next week and the whole process is pretty scary and stressful. The housing market in Phoenix is way down right now and so we're hoping that by putting it on really early we'll be able to sell it before we have to move to Jackson. Please pray that God will bring just the right buyer along at just the right time (i.e. not in the middle of my thesis concert) and that we will be able to rest and trust in His provision for us. Thank you SO MUCH!
