The Wright Family Models

Yes, folks, here we are in all our glory. No really, Carrie Hendricks did a great job with our family photos. Here's the link. Obviously David and Lynn are missing.

The Rejects

No, not us (how could you even think that?). The pictures. The pictures are the rejects. Our friend Arlen, a grad student who's finishing up his PhD in English lit, came to our apt. to take some Christmas pictures and add to his portfolio, as he's trying to get into photography. We ended up using a very different picture for Christmas cards, and as these photos will never see the light of. . . um, photo paper, I thought I'd post them here. They're fairly dark and far away, so if you really like us, you'll click on them to get a better look. Merry Christmas!

Happy Graduation to Me!

The Herberger College of Fine Arts convocation was yesterday, and I am finally, COMPLETELY done at ASU!!!  Here are some pictures from the day:

I was the only MFA in Dance to graduate this December, so I had the whole stage to myself for the hooding ceremony.  Pegge Vissicaro, the assistant chair, is standing at the podium, and Karen Schupp, my technique professor and the choreographer for my solo, hooded me.

Showing off the hood.

With my two biggest fans.

Snowwo/man

We finally have some soft white falling, falling. We are so glad to have J, E, B, and ? up to enjoy it with us. Our weekend has been cozy locked away together sipping whiskey laced eggnog (warm is best) and hot chocolate. Josh, Keri, Soph, Benjamin, and I got out this afternoon to make dangerously hard snowballs and this pint-sized snowthing. Geri and Del's sled gave some great rides too.

Second Week of Advent

Lo! How a Rose E'er Blooming

Lo! how a rose e'er blooming
From tender stem hath sprung,
Of Jesse's lineage coming,
As men of old have sung.

It came a floweret bright
Amid the cold of winter
When half-spent was the night.

Isaiah 'twas foretold it,
The rose I have in mind.
With Mary we behold it,
The virgin mother kind.

To show God's love aright,
She bore to men a Saviour,
When half-spent was the night.

This flower whose fragrance tender
With sweetness fills the air
Dispels with glorious splendor
The darkness everywhere.

True man, yet very God!
From sin and death he saves us
And lightens every load.

After Nap

Harry yelling at the Big Boys as if he's on the sidelines of a game, "Ba! Ba! Ba!":

"Maybe, could you. . . you, know, since I'm so cute. . . hoist me out the window so I can play with them? Jackson won't wake up for awhile, don't you think? Please? Pretty please?"

"Oh well. Looks like I'll have to do it myself. *push*pull*grunt*. This darn air conditioning unit."

God and cake

Benjamin and I have been talking about Christmas being Jesus' birthday. Birthdays are beginning to have very important associations for Benjamin. This morning in the car as we were driving to school:

Emily: Who's birthday do we celebrate at Christmas?

Benjamin: Jesus!

Emily: That's right.

Benjamin: And we will have a cake... God will make it.

Happy First Day of Advent

Celebrating Advent means being able to wait.
Waiting, however is an art
that our impatient age has forgotten. . .
We must wait
for the greatest, most profound,
most gentle things in the world;
nothing happens in a rush,
but only according to the divine laws
of germinations and growth and becoming.

The House in Jackson...

We think we've found a house in Jackson. It's in the area of town we wanted (NE Jackson, 1.4 miles from the Bomgaars' house) and we're planning to make an offer on it this week. If you'd like to see pictures, you can go to www.mlsoj.com, click 'search the MLS' and enter 184778 in the MLS# field on the right-hand column. Please pray for God's wisdom and direction on this decision. We're very excited about this possibility!!! Tell us what you think of the house.
