Yet another reason to pray for us

From October 3's New York Times
The average student takes 8.2 years to get a Ph.D.; in education, that figure surpasses 13 years. Fifty percent of students drop out along
the way, with dissertations the major stumbling block. At
commencement, the typical doctoral holder is 33, an age when peers are well along in their professions, and 12 percent of graduates are saddled with more than $50,000 in debt.

  1. Hey! It can be done! P-ton grad students take on average 6.34 years to complete a PhD. We finished .34 less than the average AND we have 3 children to take along with us as proof of our productive time here! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!! (Oh, and there is NO WAY we owe that much in debt, thank goodness!)

  2. Oh, yeah, and Dave isn't 33 yet. Wow! We just brought all those averages down a notch!

  3. Oh, and um, yeah. We never got the $30,000 stipend mentioned in the article. I am pretty sure only scientists get that.

  4. Yes, and I should point out, so no one worries, that we don't have any debt; our funding is just fine! And Matthew is well on his way to completing in way less than 8 years, but still - pray for us!

  6. Ruthie, how many comments can you and I make on this post? Let's try to make a record...

Our debt only exists from going to the most expensive seminary in North America. Seriously.
