An Advent Poem by Sophie

We want it to be nice.
I love You, God.
Thank You for this Christmas.
Happy Birthday, Jesus!

  1. Bravo, Sophie! I myself am a sometime Christmas bard; you may remember "White Wings" from the mid-80s? Maybe I'll post it for old times sake. In the meantime, here's a ditty that came to me in stages as we did Christmas cards:

Drink a cup o' nog for me
When gathered round the log you be
And don't neglect the spiced rum
If my absence makes you glum
But save a piece o' piquant mince
For I'll be home a few days hence!

You'll note the unmistakable influence of Longfellow (“round the log you be”) and Hawthorne (“spiced rum”)--or maybe just a heap o' Guest.
